A common theme in this month's Alumni Support Group was the idea that support is an essential factor in the recovery process. And this means support of all kinds... friends, family, chosen family, support groups, professionals... the more supports the better. We all know that this idea takes people out of isolation, which the eating disorder thrives on, and brings us in to community, which mirrors to us our true identity.
So go out and get some support! For those is the Asheville area, don't forget there are several FREE opportunities for support during the week:
Monday nights: EDA at the Unitarian Church in Asheville 6-7pm
Tuesday nights: Yoga for Revitalization at THE Center (sliding scale $5-$10)
Wednesday nights: Adult Support Group at THE Center 7-8pm
Hope everyone has a vibrant holiday season.
Next Alumni Support Group: Sunday, January 4th, 4:00-5:30pm

This is from Ari...
Dear Kathy and Robynn,
It was great to meet both of you at the alumnae meeting.
I'm not sure that I should even be on here ...since I'm not alumni (yet) but I just wanted to thank you for sharing your experiences with us. You gave us a lot of hope.
Kathy I'm sorry to have heard about the graduate school termination, but like you said maybe in the end it was the best thing that could have happened. Personally, I know that as much as I love school, it can also be a trigger and it sounded like you have built such a great life in this area. If you are really intent on pursuing the degree is it possible to reapply to somewhere in the area within which you have your support group and to transfer most of the coursework you have already done so you just pretty much have to do the dissertation?
Robynn, Congratulations on graduation. It was great to finally meet you. I totally know a bit of what your going through since I just graduated from my Master's program in September. I am currently just starting my job hunt. I'm having to learn how to live in my present moment of recovery and to be patient with myself and boy is it tough, but it sounds like you have a great handle on this and perspective on life.
I really hope to see you both at the next alumni meeting!!!
I'll still be here...I'll probably be here through February ...at my rate...but that is ok.
Take care!!! Ari
Ari,
Thanks for the words of encouragement. It is tough to stay in the moment especially when the future is so "up in the air". I am looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. It is always nice to visit
